Nine Patch Pop
Hello Hello! I’m so excited to share my new quilt pattern with you – the Nine Patch Pop! It’s a modern twist on the traditional Disappearing Nine Patch (D9P).

The D9P is one of the first quilts I ever made and feeling a real sense of achievement when I managed to cut fabric up and sew it back together again to make a Patchwork Quilt!
Nine Patch Pop is perfect for the beginner or more experienced quilter: I still remember wondering what was the best way to cut blocks up if I didn’t have all the ‘right’ equipment?!

So, I’ve included details instructions and diagrams for how to do this, which you might find useful if you are at the beginning of your quilting journey.
For quilters that want to experiment, there are ideas for how to adapt the quilt to make if your own, along with instructions for how to make the smaller blocks from scraps (so, without making a Nine Patch first) if you’re looking for a scrap-busting project.
Nine Patch Pop plays around with the placement and combination of the fabrics to provide more background space, to give a modern spin to a very popular block.
I’ve included two standard variations in the pattern, based on Fat Quarters – one with a border and one without. But if you wanted to make a bigger quilt, you could easily use a Layer Cake. So many options!!!

This quilt comes together really quickly – even quicker if you use a charm pack/layer cake (find lots of gorgeous options here!) – and is a great opportunity to play with colours and background (negative) space if you want to go for a more modern feel.

Because of all the straight lines, I experimented with the quilting and used a scallop stitch on my machine in a spiral pattern to make a flower…..the first few rounds were a little tricky, but I love the effect that it gives against the straight lines within the quilt.
You can also find a detailed Binding tutorial here if you are new to quilting or looking for additional tips to achieve a perfect finish to your quilt.

I hope you enjoy this quilt and am excited to see what you make. Don’t forget to tag it #ninepatchpop so that I can see what you’ve done, and if you have any questions, then do let me know!
