These things are always tricky to write, aren’t they? But I love reading other people’s so figured I should have one of my own!!!
Hi! I’m Sonia and I live in the West of the UK and have always been crafty (!). A lot of my childhood was spent playing around on my Mum’s old Pfaff sewing machine but as I grew up and started work it fell by the wayside.
When the lovely Mr f&f and I got married, I made all the wedding stationery and it reawakened my crafting side. A friend taught me to crochet and from then on, I could always be found with knitting needles or a crochet hook in hand.
I discovered quilting a few years later in 2012 when Jelly Roll race quilts were all the rage and haven’t looked back since!
I’ve gone on to make many quilts and patchwork projects and designed patterns that have been published in popular magazines such as Love Patchwork & Quilting, Quilt Now and Mollie Makes.
I am passionate about quilting and inspired by colours, shapes or ideas that pop into my head. I love making my designs a reality and believe that nothing is impossible (especially if you don’t think about it too much…..I often question myself halfway through a project though!).
My career – Before Children – was market research. So as you can maybe imagine, I like to do lots of reading and understand the details!!!
I love to share my knowledge and encourage others which inspired the #QuiltingTheory series. It includes all the information that I wish I could have found when I first started quilting – What do all the acronyms mean? How is a quilt put together? I take you through everything you need to know to begin quilting and include tips and tricks to add to your skillset too!
Through my Patterns, Courses and Tutorials, I like to explore different techniques and write patterns that are detailed, provide lots of options and details for how to customise so that you can use in future projects.
Why fabric & flowers?
When I first started my blog, I was mostly knitting and crocheting at the time. ‘Fabric’ worked just as well for quilting cotton as it did for yarn and the ‘flowers’ were for my love of pretty gardens (although this doesn’t quite translate to skill!).
Why ‘Today’s Sky’ at the end of each post?
One of the first, long-term projects I wrote about was a sky blanket: a ‘concept’ project where I crochet a row a day based on the colour of the sky, which I noted at the end of each blog post. You can read about my sky blanket here.
Also, being based in the UK, we do love a bit of weather chat and now it’s become a habit that I can’t quite shake!!!!
